Statistics Indonesia Records 25th Consecutive Monthly Surplus

TEMPO.CO, JakartaStatistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded that Indonesia recorded a trade surplus of US$2.89 billion in May 2022.

“So the trade balance posts a surplus for 25 consecutive months. If we compare this with the previous 25 months since May 2020, we have always posted a surplus,” said Deputy for Statistics Distribution and Services Setianto in a virtual press conference, Wednesday, June 15, 2022.

However, the surplus in May was still lower than in April 2022 at US$7.56 billion. He said that the surplus in May generated from transactions in the non-oil and gas sector was actually higher at US$4.75 billion, but was reduced by a trade deficit in the oil and gas sector of US$1.86 billion.

Throughout January-May 2022, although the oil and gas sector experienced a deficit of US$9.56 billion, there was still a surplus in the non-oil and gas sector of US$29.35 billion, resulting in a total surplus of US$19.79 billion.

Indonesia's export value in May 2022 amounted to US$21.51 billion, down by 21.29 percent compared to that in April 2022. Compared to May 2021, the value rose by 27.00 percent. 

Meanwhile, non-oil and gas exports in May 2022 reached US$20.01 billion, dropping by 22.71 percent compared to April 2022. However, the yearly value was up by 25.34 percent].

Indonesia's import value in May 2022 reached US$18.61 billion, down 5.81 percent compared to April 2022 or up 30.74 percent compared to May 2021.
