TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The leader of the Khilafatul Muslimin Bekasi, Abu Salma, rebutted accusations that his organization planned to change Indonesia’s ideology of Pancasila into a caliphate, questioning police sources about the allegations.
Abu who joined the group in 2006 claimed there has never been a doctrine to change the ideology. “I have joined [the group] for a long time and there has never been any word of turning it (Pancasila) into a caliphate,” he told Tempo on Tuesday, June 14, 2022.
The general leader Abdul Qadir Hasan Baraja also said that if the organization did not adhere to Pancasila, members will go to hell because Pancasila is part of the substance of the holy Quran and hadiths.
The five points of Pancasila, Abu emphasized, are part of Islamic teachings. “That's why we can't argue or want to replace Pancasila. This seems impossible,” he added.
Abu admitted that he was confused by the circulating opinions about the Khilafatul Muslimin. “We never want to change [the country’s ideology] because we, the Muslims, are the majority here. We just follow the Islamic teachings according to our beliefs, and it is also protected by Article 29 (2) of the 1945 Constitution,” Abu explained.
Previously reported, Jakarta Metro Jaya Police spokesman Sr. Come. Endra Zulpan stated that Khilafatul Muslimin had intentions to replace Pancasila with a caliphate after naming Abdul Qadir Hasan Baraja as a suspect on Tuesday last week in Lampung.
“This group wants to replace and offer the caliphate as a substitute for Pancasila. Of course, this is against the 1945 Constitution,” he said at Metro Jaya Police HQ, South Jakarta, Tuesday, June 7, 2022.
