TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Director-General of Disease Prevention and Control at the Indonesian Health Ministry, as well as former Covid-19 task force spokesperson, dr. Achmad Yurianto reportedly passed away today, May 21, at 18:58 in the City of Malang, East Java.

Achmad Yurianto was known by the Indonesian public when he was posted as the spokesperson for the Covid-19 mitigation task force in the early days of the pandemic. He was in the position from March 2020 to July 2021, before being replaced by Wiku Adisasmito.

Previously, Achmad Yurianto underwent treatment for his cancer at the Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital, Central Jakarta. He suffered from colon cancer and was treated at the hospital for several weeks.
