TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Principal Expert of the Presidential Staffs' Office Abraham Wirotomo asserted that the decision concerning changing the Covid-19 pandemic status to endemic will be made following an evaluation after the Eid Al-Fitr homecoming period.
Abraham's statement was made following information that the government had prepared plans to change the Covid-19 pandemic status to endemic.
"For schemes towards endemic status, the government will still wait for evaluation a few weeks after Eid Al-Fitr. We hoped that there will be no more surge such as in other countries. The government will prepare to anticipate if there is a surge," Abraham said in a press conference on Thursday, May 5, 2022.
Abraham admitted that during the past seven weeks, Covid-19 has been under control.
Such condition was evident based on the Reproduction Rate (Rt) data, which value remains consistent at 1 (one), and the number of Covid-19 cases which continue to decrease gradually.
"As of May 3, 2022, 107 cases per day, mortality number at 18 per day, and the number of active cases only 6,951 remaining. This is something we need to be thankful for and we need to appreciate medical officers, the Army/Police, and task force who keeps on reminding us of health protocols," Abraham added.
However, Abraham said that the government is not in a hurry to change the Covid-19 pandemic status to endemic despite a number of factors having shown improvements.
