TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The traffic of train passengers returning from their annual Eid exodus or mudik is expected to reach its peak from May 6-9 at Gambir dan Pasar Senen Stations. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) PR chief for Jakarta Service Area, Eva Chairunisa, said that as of Wednesday people have started returning to Jakarta.
"The return period of train passengers is expected between May 6 and 9," Eva said as reported by Antara, May 4.
PT KAI's prediction is similar to that of the Transportation Ministry, which estimated the peak return period to happen from May 6 to 8.
As of the third day of Eid al-Fitr, the number of people leaving Jakarta from both Gambir and Pasar Senen Stations were still quite high. According to PT KAI's records on Tuesday, the percentage of tickets booked for departures between May 4 and 7 reached 40-75 percent. Eva predicted the number to continue to rise.
"Tickets for those dates are still available even though the number of reservations continues to increase," she said.
