TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi celebrated Eid al-Fitr in Yogyakarta on Monday, May 2, 2022. After performing Eid prayers at Gedung Agung Yogyakarta, the President left for Keraton Kilen—the private residence of Yogyakarta Sultan-cum-Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X.
President Jokowi, together with First Lady Iriana and his youngest son Kaesang Pangarep and several protocol officers, arrived at Keraton Kilen at around 09:00 a.m. local time.
The President was welcomed by crown princesses Gusti Kanjeng Ratu (GKR) Condrokirono, GKR Hayu—the second and the third daughters of the Sultan—princes Kanjeng Pangeran Haryo (KPH) Purbodiningrat and KPH Notonegoro—the Sultan’s sons-in-law—and the Sultan’s grandchildren. President Jokowi has been in Yogyakarta since Saturday, April 30, 2022.
In his Eid al-Fitr message, the President reminded everyone to comply with the health protocols, as he posted on social media on Monday that “we are still in the battle against the pandemic, and we all hope to prevail.”
“This year’s celebrations are special because we are allowed to go mudik and celebrate Eid with our families and relatives in hour hometowns,” he wrote, adding that he hoped the joyful spirit of Eid would not deter people’s vigilance in keeping the health protocols.
The President said he went to the Sultan’s residence because he celebrated Eid in the province. “First of all, it is because I am in Yogyakarta on Eid al-Fitr day, so of course the first person that I have to pay a visit to and wish a happy Eid and ask forgiveness from for my physical and emotional wrongdoings is the Sultan,” Jokowi said.
Sultan Hamengku Buwono X said there were no crucial issues discussed in the meeting. “There was nothing urgent or important in the discussion, such as politics and economy,” the Sultan said.
