TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Six million passengers are expected to flock to Soekarno-Hatta Airport in this year's Eid homecoming or 'mudik' season. The estimate is based on a survey held by the Transportation Ministry.
Agus Haryadi, Angkasa Pura II's executive general manager for the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Main Office Branch, said that the number of homecoming passengers is expected to reach around 85 million, of which 9.7 million would use air transportation.
"If we calculate it based on the distribution, around 65 percent or 6 million people will fly from Soekarno-Hatta," Agus said at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Thursday, April 21.
Compared to the previous homecoming season, Agus ensured that this year's Eid homecoming season will see a significant spike. "After two years of no mudik because of pandemic restrictions, this year will be extraordinary," he said.
So far throughout Ramadan, Agus said, air passengers' traffic averages between 90,000 and 100,000 per day. "It will continue to rise to start seven days before Eid until its peak on April 28 or 29. We predict it will reach 169,000 passengers per day," he said.
