Telkom, Telekom Malaysia Partner Up to Expand Submarine Cable Services

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned telecommunication firm Telkom, through its subsidiary Telin announced its strategic partnership with TM Wholesale, a business unit of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM).
The collaboration between the two communication giants from Indonesia and Malaysia was marked by the MoU signing between Telin chief executive officer Budi Satria Dharma Purba and TM Wholesale executive vice president Amar Huzaimi Md Deris for a business deal on submerged communication cable at Dubai's Hotel Grand Hyatt.
This partnership is expected to expand collaboration and future business opportunities related to optimizing existing infrastructure capacity, while still focusing on providing reliable, diversified, and uninterrupted connectivity solutions.
Budi Satria Dharma Purba said Telin and Telekom Malaysia Wholesale share the same goal, "We are very excited to explore business opportunities related to submarine communication cable systems to meet the soaring demand for fast internet due to trends such as flexible work arrangements, video streaming, and gaming. We believe that this collaboration will be mutually beneficial to serve the needs of stakeholders," said Budi, quoted from the Telkom website, April 21, 2022.
Meanwhile, Amar Huzaimi Md Deris, Executive Vice President, TM Wholesale, said his company is committed to providing customers with greater reach and more robust connectivity.
"This collaboration enables us to fulfill demands on high bandwidth services through providing diverse connections and alternative routes that connect Malaysia to the whole world," Amar explained.
Both parties are confident that the collaboration will produce a business initiative that is effective and efficient in terms of mutually-beneficial submarine communication cable systems investment.
Telin currently has 22 of these systems through consortium ownership or lease that expands to 222,260 kilometers while TM has 30 submarine cables with a total length of 320,000 kilometers.
