TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has declared the national holiday for Eid Al-Fitr 1443 Hijr falls on May 2 and 3, 2022, and four collective leave days on April 29 and May 4-6, 2022.
“The decision on this collective leave will be regulated in more detail through a joint regulation of the relevant ministers,” said Jokowi in the Bogor Palace, West Java, Wednesday, April 6.
The public, he added, can spend joint leave days by visiting parents and relatives in their hometowns. However, he reminded all that the pandemic is not completely over yet.
“We all must always stay vigilant, and quickly get the booster vaccine,” the former mayor of Solo underlined.
He also encouraged the public to keep complying with the health protocols in a disciplined manner, including wearing masks in public places or in crowds.
During this year’s Eid holiday, the government predicted that around 85 million people will return to their hometowns or have Eid homecoming or mudik trip. Of the figure, 14 million people hail from Jabodetabek (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi)
It was also estimated that 47 percent of the homecomers will use private vehicles. “The government will surely work hard to provide optimal service so that people can travel safely and comfortably,” Jokowi said.
