TEMPO.CO, JakartaIndonesia’s number of COVID-19 daily cases has plummeted by 97 percent since the peak of Omicron transmission a few months ago, said Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan as the coordinator for the enforcement of the public mobility restrictions (PPKM) for the Java-Bali region.

“The current COVID-19 condition and situation are also very good,” he said at the Presidential Office after a limited meeting on the PPKM evaluation in Jakarta, Monday, April 4. “In less than three months, the national daily cases have sharply dropped by 97 percent from the peak of [Omicron] cases.”

Luhut, who is also Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, explained that the country’s active cases also decreased by 83 percent from the peak. At present, the figure is below 100,000.

Additionally, the hospital bed occupancy rate (BOR) is now only six percent, down by 85 percent as of early April 2022.

Luhut further said the current positivity rate is below the WHO standard or at four percent. “The number of people who died [due to the disease] also dropped sharply to 88 percent compared to the last peak of Omicron cases,” he added.

Based on these indicators, Luhut said the government concluded that the transmission of the COVID-19 Omicron variant in Indonesia was under control.
