TEMPO.CO, Lebak - The Regional Disaster Mitigation of Lebak, Banten, has yet to receive a report of damages following the magnitude 5.3 earthquake on Saturday, March 12, at 12:31 local time.
"Until now, there is no report on damages or casualties caused by the quake," said BPBD Lebak acting chief, Febby Rizky Pratama, as reported by Antara on March 12.
The quake was centered at the depth of 10 kilometers, on 7.19 south latitude, 105.98 east longitude, and 41 kilometers southwest of Bayah. The meteorology agency, BMKG, stated that the quake showed no potential for a tsunami.
"We can make sure that the tectonic earthquake was relatively safe; not creating damages in houses," Febby added.
The tremor was felt by the people from inside their houses but it was only for a few seconds. The people living on the south coast of Lebak Regency, near the center of the quake, ran out of the house.
But the activities of residents living on the coast of Bayah were relatively normal even though they could feel the shaking. The people there are used to earthquakes, so it did not affect their economic activities. "We are used to earthquakes and don't panic so much," said Tati, a resident of East Bayah.
