TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - National air navigation firm Airnav Indonesia asserted that it will not issue a recommendation letter for the operation of drones to any party during the 2022 Mandalika MotoGP.
“Except for the organizers, Dorna and the Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC),” said President Director of AirNav Indonesia, Polana Banguningsih Pramesti, in a statement, Wednesday, March 9.
The illegal operation of drones, she underlined, is a threat to the safety of flight operations and the public, particularly the racers and spectators in the international event.
Polana claimed her side had conducted a number of safety campaigns related to the prohibition of drone operations without permission during the event. “Based on the data, 21 drones have been taken down during the 2022 MotoGP pre-season test on February 10-12, 2022,” she added.
Airnav Indonesia, she went on, had also identified the hazard of illegal drone flights around Kuta Mandalika and carried out a number of mitigations, such as joining the Aerial Tactical Team of the National Police, collaborating with Kuta regional heads, and conducting a safety campaign against the dangers of illegal drone operations to the public and hotel management around the event site.
