TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Street vendors and residents joining the Jakarta Urban Poor Network (JRMK) planned to stage a demonstration in front of the office of Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan at City Hall on February 2. The JRMK coordinator Minawati said they will demand Anies fulfill his political promises regarding the legality of land in disputed villages.
“His (Anies) promises regarding the land legality have not been fulfilled,” said Minawati to Tempo on Thursday, January 27.
Minawati said the legality of Kampung Akuarium in North Jakarta is not yet clear albeit the governor has built apartments or locally known rusun. Anies inaugurated the project of the low-cost flat on August 17, 2021.
The apartment is intended for the residents of Kampung Akuarium who were evicted from their village in the era of Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama alias Ahok.
Minawati also questioned the legality of land ownership in Kampung Rawa, Johar Baru, Central Jakarta which is still in dispute with the tax office to date.
Additionally, Anies has not yet provided legal certainty on the fate of street vendors. “There are so many things that have not been resolved by Anies,” she said.
The demand for Anies Baswedan's political promises was conveyed by JRMK as the governor’s office term will end in October 2022. Minawati said the upcoming rally will be attended by street vendors, residents of disputed villages, up to the Jakarta Pedicab Association (SEBAJA).
