TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan ensured that the change in the coal procurement scheme for state-owned electricity company PLN would not produce an impact on public electricity tariffs.
“It (the change) has nothing to do with it (electricity tariffs). In fact, it will be better, more efficient, and more open,” said Luhut in his office, Monday, January 10.
Luhut explained the government would launch an audit of the coal procurement. “We have started the audit from BPKP earlier. Many do not match, now we want to clean everything up. The President asks for all of them to be finished.”
The coordinating minister previously confirmed that the government would change the coal procurement scheme for PLN. The state-run firm would thus purchase coal for the supply of its steam power plants according to market prices.
“BLU (Public Service Agency) will be formed later. The BLU will make payment to PLN and so PLN purchases [coal] at market price. The market mechanism will no longer be disrupted,” said Luhut.
