TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Upstream Oil and Gas Special Regulatory Taskforce (SKK Migas) is preparing 58 cargoes of LNG to secure supply for the electricity sector. SKK Migas hopes that all cargos prepared for state power company PLN will be absorbed.
SKK Migas deputy for finance and monetization Arief Setiawan Handoko said that the 58 LNG cargoes will come from the Bontang and Tangguh refineries.
"Right now, all related parties are ensuring the availability of energy for electricity, especially in the first quarter of 2022," said Arief in a written statement, Wednesday, January 5.
Arief added that in the future, the role of natural gas—including LNG—will be increasingly strategic as a transitional energy towards net zero emission. "In this process, SKK Migas will ensure that the upstream oil and gas sector has and will continue to commit to supplying LNG for power plants," he said.
In 2021, from a total of 56 cargoes, the supply for electricity sector reached 54 cargoes. The rest went to the industrial sector. This means that 96.5 percent of the domestic LNG supply is used by the electricity sector.
