TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Health Ministry reported two new confirmed cases of Omicron local transmission that were detected in Surabaya. The two people exposed to the new Covid-19 variant had reportedly returned from Bali.
“The latest are two Surabaya residents after they went on a vacation to Bali with family members,” said Covid-19 spokesperson Siti Nadia Tarmizi in a statement on January 2.
According to Nadia, the two patients have been evacuated and isolated to a hospital. The two were also asymptomatic. This latest finding adds to the total number of people exposed to the Omicron variant to 138.
Out of all the findings, 135 were imported cases while there were 3 cases of local transmissions. One of the cases of local transmission was found in a 37 year old Medan resident who visited Jakarta, but is now isolated at the Infectious Disease Hospital Sulianti Saroso.
Nadia reminded that the Omicron variant has a fairly high transmission. "With the discovery of another case of local transmission, the government reminds again and asks the public to reduce mobility," said Nadia.
