Indonesia Logs 213 New Covid-19 Cases as Per December 16

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia reported 213 new Covid-19 cases Thursday, December 16, 2021. Today's caseload added the total national case to 4,259,857 people.
Meanwhile, 234 people today have survived the Coronavirus disease, adding the total recovery to 4,111,045 people. However, 10 deaths related to the infectious disease were reported today, totaling the Covid-19 death toll in Indonesia to 143,979.
Health Minister Budi Gunadi earlier today announced the first Omicron variant case in Indonesia. He said that the government will act swiftly in suppressing the number of Omicron variant transmission in the country.
Currently, he went on, the Indonesian government is preparing a number of strategies as preventive measures.
“We'll intensify Covid-19 vaccination especially for senior citizens, as well as preparing medicines. Besides, we will be tightening genome sequencing sampling,” said Minister Budi in a press conference on Thursday, December 16, 2021.
