Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health's COVID-19 Vaccination, dr. Siti Nadia Tarmizi, M. Epid

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia has become one of the countries with a low risk of COVID-19 transmission, stated the spokesperson for COVID-19 vaccinations for the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi.

"The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) revealed that Indonesia is included as a country with a low risk of COVID-19 transmission, namely a country with a level one transmission risk," she informed at a press conference accessed online here on Wednesday.

The CDC releases recommendations for travel destinations based on the level of COVID-19 risk, which is divided into level one, level two, level three, level four, and level unknown, she said.

"Indonesia is included in the level one category, which is the low category," she added.

The CDC has recommended that travelers visiting countries with low transmission risk be fully vaccinated first, Tarmizi said.

"The CDC recommendation is good news for the government and Indonesians. This indicates that the COVID-19 pandemic handling in Indonesia is on the right track," she added.

Despite the good progress in Indonesia's COVID-19 handling, the public must remain disciplined in following the health protocols, the spokesperson said.

Regarding the threat of the Omicron variant during the upcoming Christmas and New Year's holidays, she said the government has appealed to the public to remain alert by tightening the health protocols, utilizing the PeduliLindungi application, and getting vaccinated quickly.

"We can put an end to the COVID-19 pandemic if we unite as one in the fight (against COVID-19) and the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic," she remarked.

The first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Indonesia in March 2020. According to data provided by the COVID-19 Handling Task Force, as of December 15, 2021, at least 4,259,644 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the country, while 4,110,811 people have recovered, and 143,969 people have succumbed to the deadly virus.
