TEMPO.CO, JakartaSpokesman for the national COVID-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, said COVID-19 vaccination for children aged 6-11 years was not a prerequisite for face-to-face learning or PTM at schools. The government targeted immunization for 26.5 million kids.

“Please note that COVID-19 vaccination on children is not a requirement for face-to-face learning,” said Wiku at an online press conference in Jakarta, Tuesday, December 14.

According to him, the vaccine injection would kick off in Jakarta, Banten, and Depok using China’s Sinovac vaccine. Parents or children’s guardians are required to present a family card (KK) or other documents noting the children’s identity number (NIK) to participate in the vaccination.

“This vaccination is integrated with routine immunization activities,” Wiku added.

He explained that vaccination for children aged 6-11 years old was one of the government's efforts to expand the formation of antibodies in the population, considering that there was a surge in the number of COVID-19 cases among children in a number of countries facing rampant transmission of the new coronavirus variant, Omicron.
