TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia begins vaccinating children between the age of 6 and 11 today, December 14. The Deputy Minister of Health, Dante Saksono Harbuwono, said that the injection of the Covid-19 vaccine was held simultaneously in 115 districts/cities in 19 provinces.
Vaccination for children age 6 to 11 will be carried out in stages. The first stage is in provinces and districts/cities where more than 70 percent of the overall population and more than 60 percent of elderly have received the first doses.
Dante said that, based on the ministry's data, there are around 26.7 million children between the ages of 6 and 11 who will be vaccinated.
"That means that for two doses each, the vaccine needed is around 58 million doses," Dante said during the vaccination kick-off event at Cempaka Putih Elementary, as posted to the Health Ministry's Instagram account, December 14.
For now, the children will get the Sinovac vaccine, which is authorized for emergency use. By the end of December, 6.4 million doses of the Sinovac vaccine will be injected.
