TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Law and Human Rights Ministry Directorate General of Immigration spokesperson Arya Pradhana Anggakara on Thursday announced the death of a Nigerian national, Kingsley Chukwuebuka, at the immigration detention house (Rudenim) on Tuesday.
According to officials, Kingsley died due to “a heart attack and fatigue,” he said on November 11.
He explains that the 35 year old Nigerian, before his death, had got into a commotion with the police and prison guards after the detainee refused to be moved to another cell. After the bustle, Kingsley was then eventually moved to another cell, but as they arrived at the new location the Nigerian man was visibly fatigued.
“Guards found the detainee to be extremely fatigued and transported him to the nearest hospital,” he added.
Unfortunately, Kingsley died at the hospital despite attempts to recover the detainee by hospital employees. Other detainees involved in the incident have been temporarily transferred to other facilities across Jakarta.
Citing Antaranews, the local police chief Commissioner Hasoloan Situmorang said the foreign national who died at the Rudenim has a history of heart disease.
