Indonesia Logs Over 15,000 New Cases, Almost 30,000 Recoveries

TEMPO.CO, JakartaIndonesia could see its Covid-19 situations improving soon as indicated by the statistics for today, August 18. The national Covid-19 Task Force today announced 15,768 new infections, down from yesterday's 20,741 cases. Meanwhile, the number of new recoveries is almost twice of the new infections with 29,795. 

Today's new cases data are based on the Health Ministry's data as of Wednesday noon. Today's new positive confirms were the result of testing 137,182 specimens.

So far, Indonesia has logged a total of 3,908,247 confirmed cases of Covid-19, a staggering increase from a year ago when the caseload was around 143,000.

Authorities also reported 1,128 new deaths today, bringing the national Covid-19 casualty count to 121,141.

Today, Central Java reported the most new cases with 3,072, followed by East Java (1,499), West Java (1,377) and Jakarta (1,029).
