TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Communication and Informatics Ministry (Kominfo) announced the ‘groundbreaking’ of its Earth Station for the Indonesian Republic Satellite, abbreviated Satellite SATRIA I, at West Java’s Cikarang area on Wednesday.
“The groundbreaking in Cikarang marks the SATRIA I earth segment project and shows that despite the pandemic, the attempt to accelerate digital transformation continues to be realized,” said Kominfo Minister Johnny G. Plate in a virtual event on August 18.
The so-called earth station will function as a monitoring station for every movement by the SATRIA I satellite, supervise the satellite’s performance and ensure it performs under standardized services, and a bridge for communication between SATRIA I and infrastructures located on earth.
The government also plans to establish ten other ‘earth stations’ across Batam, Pontianak, Banjarnegara, Tarakan, Manado, Manokwari, Ambon, Kupang, Timika, dan Jayapura.
The earth station will have three main components; a main controller for satellite SATRIA, transmission components to send and receive signals from the satellite, and thirdly the hub servers for telecommunication and internet network.
