TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - Prambanan Temple is temporarily closed again starting June 30 until July 5, 2021. The tourist site management Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan, and Ratu Boko (TWC) could not yet confirm until when the closure will last.
The closure of the temple located on the border of Yogyakarta and Central Java was taken following a dramatic surge in Covid-19 cases in Klaten and Sleman that were declared as the red zone.
“We will monitor further conditions and developments and coordinate with the Covid-19 task force to see the latest situation, especially in the Klaten area,” said PT TWC Corporate Secretary Emilia Eny Utari in Sleman, Tuesday.
Emilia, who is also the Head of PT TWC's Covid-19 Handling Task Force, said the closure of the temple was to follow up on the Klaten Regent's Circular Number 443.5/418/13 regarding the Acceleration of Controlling the Spread of Covid-19 in Klaten Regency, Central Java. “We are trying our best to support the recovery of this pandemic,” she added.
Prambanan Temple was previously under months-long closure in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. Recently, the tourist site management also closed the tourist area every weekend under the instructions of the Klaten Regent.
