TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in his statement on Monday has set a goal to complete two million daily COVID-19 vaccinations starting in August this year.
“Let me remind everyone that we must continue to work hard to achieve the one million daily vaccination target until the end of July, which will be increased twofold in August 2021 with two million doses each day,” said the President on June 28.
During his speech, he showed his appreciation and highest accolades for Saturday’s (June 26) vaccination that achieved the target of 1.3 million daily vaccinations, which was one month earlier than expected.
The sudden increase in number follows the multiple vaccinations held across many Indonesian regions that have adopted a new rule that does not depend on a person’s domicile printed on their ID card.
“This is thanks to the hard work and collaboration from everyone, especially the Health Ministry, the Indonesian Military and the National Police, regional administrations, State-owned Enterprises, and the private sector,” said the President. “And the people who were willing to be vaccinated.”
The Indonesian government has started to provide COVID-19 vaccination for people aged 12-17 years old after the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) issued an emergency use authorization for the Sinovac vaccine to be given to this demographic.
