COVID-19 Vaccination in Jakarta Reaches 130 Thousand Daily: Anies Baswedan

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said the coverage of COVID-19 vaccination in the capital had reached an average of 130,000 people daily. He added this effort was aimed at meeting the government’s target of 7.5 million inoculated Jakarta residents until August 2021.

“The target in Jakarta is 7.5 million people at the end of August. So, when we hear 7.5 million, it means we have to inoculate 100,000 people per day. Thank God, Jakarta is now seeing a daily average of 130,000,” he said when inspecting the vaccine center at Bentara Budaya Jakarta, South Palmerah, Central Jakarta, Monday.

Anies said there were two key elements during the vaccination, viz. the supply and demand of those willing to get vaccinated. Thus, he lauded all parties that collaborated in the vaccination effort, including media giant Kompas Gramedia with its vaccine center at Bentara Budaya, which aims at vaccinating up to 10,000 media employees for the next few days.

Seconding Anies’ statement, the Acting Director General of Disease Prevention and Control of the Health Ministry, Maxi Rein Rondonuwu, said Jakarta was among the regions in the country with the highest daily averages of vaccination. Maxi said he was upbeat the capital could reach herd immunity in August.

“We will support Governor Anies Baswedan. If possible, let us make this a present [for the country] on the Independence Day, reaching 70 percent of herd immunity, including for the Greater Jakarta area. We will go all out to help our capital,” Maxi said.
