TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria denied rumors that authorities used trucks as hearses to transport the bodies of Covid-19 patients. Riza said that Jakarta still has enough ambulances to transport bodies.
"There is no such thing. We never even thought of using trucks to transport bodies. We have enough ambulances for that," he said at the City Hall, Tuesday night, June 22.
Nevertheless, Riza said the provincial government may look for other modes of transportations to the bodies, if they believe that there aren't enough ambulances in the capital for the service.
"So far, Jakarta still has enough ambulances. If we are short on ambulances, we will look for the best solutions," he said.
Some time ago, photos were circulating online showing men wearing what looked like PPEs hauling coffins onto a truck. One photo even showed a truck with a banner that says "hearse". The photos also showed a blurred logo of the Pemprov DKI and a caption that says 'Department of Parks and Urban Forests DKI Jakarta Province'.
The Jakarta Parks and Urban Forest Office head, Susi Marsitawati, had said that the photos were taken from a simulation activity carried out by Office, Kompas reported. The Twitter user who uploaded the photos, Nic Lin @nicolaslkh, has also clarified that the activities photographed were indeed part of a simulation.
