TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe daily number of Covid-19 cases in Jakarta is climbing, with 987 new infections detected today, April 29, over the past 24 hours.

The city’s Health Agency Head of Disease Prevention and Control, Dwi Oktavia, said today’s addition was obtained from the result of PCR tests on 11,949 specimens.

“The number of people tested with PCR amounted to 9,559,” Dwi said in a written statement.

Apart from the PCR test, the city administration also conducted antigen tests on 4,783 people. The results of 75 tests came back positive. “But the positive antigen test results in Jakarta are not included in the total positive cases because they are reconfirmed by PCR tests.”

The capital’s PCR test rate per one million population was 349,201 thus far, with 61,360 people undergoing PCR tests last week. Thus, the number of active cases rose by 378. “So the total number of active cases until this day is 6,718 people,” she added.

Since the onset of the pandemic in March last year, Jakarta has recorded 407,831 confirmed cases. Of which, 394,403 patients have recovered and 6,710 patients died. The recovery rate reached 96,7 percent, while the fatality rate was 1.6 percent, below the country’s death rate of 2.7 percent.

Dwi continued to report that the Covid-19 positivity rate in Jakarta in the past week was 8.9 percent, with an accumulated rate of 11 percent. Both rates, however, were still above the recommended safe rate by the World Health Organization (WHO) of no more than 5 percent.
