TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry for Women's Empowerment and Child Protection said that women have lost their income since the pandemic began. According to the Ministry, since Covid-19 started at the end of 2019, the decline in women's income has reached a level of 82 percent.

"Meanwhile, 36 percent of women working in the informal sectors were forced to cut their paid hours during the pandemic," the ministry's Deputy for Community Participation, Vennetia Ryckerens Danes, said in an online discussion on Thursday, April 16.

This, she said, caused 57 percent of women to experience increased anxiety and stress, higher than men's 48 percent.

The pandemic, she said, also increases gender-based violence by 63 percent, in which 83 percent of victims are reluctant to file reports.

According to the Ministry, since January 2021 there have been 2,710 recorded violence against women.
