TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo, or Jokowi, on Wednesday, announced that the government will make the country’s nationwide Covid-19 vaccinations free of charge.
According to his statement aired in a video that was uploaded by the state secretariat Youtube channel, this decision was made after receiving crucial input from the public and recalculating the country’s state budget.
“I now announce that the Covid-19 vaccination will be free of charge,” said the seventh Indonesian president on December 16. “Once again, it will be completely free of charge.”
In the video, Jokowi instructed State Cabinet members, State Ministries, and state institutions to prioritize the vaccination program in the country’s 2021 budget through budget reallocation and other plans that were discussed with Finance Minister Sri Mulyani.
“There will be no reason for people to not take their share of vaccines,” said Jokowi who announced earlier that he will be the first recipient of the Covid-19 vaccine.
