TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) announced it will trackdown how far the corruption on the government’s COVID-19 aid has gone after Social Affairs Minister Juliari Batubara was named by the anti-graft agency as one of the main suspects.
KPK spokesperson Ali Fikri said investigators will look into the possibility that the corruption funds have made it into political parties.
“We will dig into the possibility of the flow of funds to certain political parties he has ties with. We will focus on how much he received and expand it from there,” said Ali Fikri at the KPK headquarters on December 6.
Juliari Batubara, who is also a known politician for the Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), was named a suspect after he was charged for alleged corruption of the social assistance funds provision.
PDIP secretary, Hasto Kristiyanto on Sunday’s written statement made sure that his party respects the legal procedures done by KPK towards one of its members and made sure that PDIP cadres are under strict orders from the party to distance themselves from corruption.
Juliari is one of three PDIP members nabbed by KPK with the other two being Wenny Bukamo, and Ajay Muhammad Priatna.
