TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, on Wednesday said that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has officially ordered state ministers to prepare 5 draft presidential regulations (Perpres) and 35 derivative government regulations (PP) from the recently passed Job Creation Law.
“Based on the President’s orders, there are at least 35 government regulations and five presidential regulations,” said Airlangga in the virtual press conference on Wednesday, October 7. “We are tasked to complete it in one month, even though the law gives us three months. So, that is the target set by bapak President.”
A wave of nationwide strikes have been echoed by Indonesia’s laborer’s unions, alliances, and general communities from October 6 to 8 after the House of Representatives (DPR) passed the Job Creation Law on Monday, October 5.
The nationwide strike will peak on October 8, 2020, at the DPR headquarters and regional government offices across cities in Indonesia. Many have urged President Jokowi to repeal the Omnibus Law but in actuality, the president had ordered state-ministers to accelerate the process of passing derivative laws from the Omnibus Law.
