TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The COVID-19 task force of West Sumatra reported on Thursday that the province has become one of the Indonesian regions recording the highest number of mortalities in the past week.
“The number of deaths in West Sumatra had increased by 150 percent compared to the previous week,” said the COVID-19 task force spokesperson, Wiku Adisasmito, in an online press conference on Thursday, September 17.
Moreover, Adisasmito said that Bali, Jakarta, and East Kalimantan are three Indonesian provinces with the growing mortality rate but East Java tops them with 218 deaths related to the viral infection for the past week.
On this, he ordered regional leaders to closely monitor the COVID-19 cases and follow it up with immediate action to suppress the number of deaths.
Meanwhile, cities with the highest cumulative deaths per 10,000 people are Surabaya, Semarang, Central Jakarta, and Makassar.
