Safety Tips to Socialize with Friends amid Pandemic

2 September 2020 21:12 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe government has relaxed lockdowns and social restrictions in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. People are now permitted to go out and run their normal activities, including having gatherings with friends under the health protocols.

However, that does not mean there is no risk of virus transmission as the pandemic has not been contained. To lessen the risk and protect each other during hangouts, here are safety tips compiled from Times of India and Today.com.

  1. Wear face masks

Some people may be tempted to put off face masks when meeting friends. However, wearing a mask is mandatory as it is personal protective equipment during a pandemic.

  1. Meet in outdoor areas

It is highly suggested to meet others outside, such as parks. Many experts and researchers stated that virus particles can spread faster in closed rooms with AC. Otherwise, rooms with good ventilation are less risky.

  1. Avoid exchanging items

During the session, never exchange items or share food and beverages. Viruses may stay on the items’ surface so there is still a big risk for transmission there. It is better to keep all of your belongings to yourself.

  1. Do not hug or shake hands

For some people, hugging or shaking hands with friends is part of habits. Yet you must understand that hands are the main spreader of infection. Instead, make a safe greeting, such as elbow bumps or hip bumps.
