TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan’s proposal to utilize parts of toll road sections as bike lanes have been criticized as a dangerous and potentially violating policy by transportation expert Adj. Sr. Comr. (ret) Budiyanto.
“From the legal aspect, I would argue that it could be against or violate [the law],” Budiyanto wrote on Friday.
The danger aspect is quite clear as he explained the safety aspect did not go in line with the basic purpose of a toll road specifically built to slash travel time for motorized vehicles, and that Law No.38.2004 stipulated that the use of toll roads must comply with existing regulations.
“Don’t interpret it with subjective reasons that can potentially clash with the Law and can be counter-productive,” he feared.
Governor Anies Baswedan once pitched the idea to utilize one lane on the capital's inner-city toll road to be transformed into a bike lane, specifically used for rad bikes that are usually ridden with higher speed. The governor claimed he had submitted a proposal to the Public Works and Housing Ministry.
