TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The South Tangerang Police had arrested one of the two thieves involved in the stealing of a high-end bicycle that is said to be worth over IDR 130 million or equals to more than USD 8,000 in the current exchange rate.
The crime was done at one of the elite housings in Bintaro. One of the suspects was arrested after being identified through CCTV recording the owner had installed at his home.
"Yes, Alhamdulillah we arrested one of the two suspects who was recorded by the CCTV as he stole the BMC road bike in one of Bintaro's housing clusters," said South Tangerang Police Chief Adj. Commissioner Muharram Wibisono on Monday, August 22, 2020.
According to the police chief, the suspect was arrested in Cirebon, West Java, over 200 kilometers away from where the crime happened. The Police also had to fire several shots as the suspect resisted arrest. One bullet eventually hits the suspect's leg.
"After interrogations, the suspect is known to be a recidivist of motorcycle theft crimes and had just been released from prison under the assimilation program several months ago," said Police Chief Wibisono.
The suspect had also sold the bicycle at an online platform and was sold far below the bicycle's initial market value of IDR 130 million.
