TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The revitalization project of the Sarinah department store, Jakarta is still underway and targeted to complete in August 2021. The CEO Fetty Kwartati said the state-owned shopping center will be equipped with cultural spots, such as an amphitheater, museum, and co-working space.
“The transformation of Sarinah will have a very inline business concept. It will have four areas, namely retail, trading, digital, and property,” said Fetty in a virtual press conference on Tuesday, August 18.
Based on the recently-launched model, the building will be in a modern concept with cultural reliefs. Several areas will also be set as open green space for the public.
Fetty explained that the restoration project had been permitted by the cultural heritage expert team since the shopping center is classified as a historical building in the capital city.
The shopping mall, she added, will be transformed into a community-based business ecosystem center that promotes local products and as a meeting place and forum for local entrepreneurs to gain wider market access.
The renovation is led by state-owned developer PT Wijaya Karya, requiring a budget of Rp500 billion and a working capital of Rp200 billion.
State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Minister Erick Thohir hoped Sarinah will become a tourist destination for foreigners visiting Jakarta.
