Sri Mulyani: Free Electricity Program Extended Until September

TEMPO.CO, JakartaFinance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati announced that the government would extend the policies of free electricity for 450-VA subsidized subscribers and 50 percent discount for 900-VA subscribers. This electricity stimulus is part of the country’s interventions in the economic recovery during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sri said the aid was initially given to 2.4 million households in the 450-VA subsidized category and 7.2 million households in the 900-VA subsidized category until June. “And it is extended until September,” she said on Monday, May 18.

The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry recorded that state-owned electricity firm PLN had 75.4 million subscribers, and its revenue from the sales reached Rp274 trillion per year or some Rp22.8 trillion per month.

In detail, there are 55.7 million subscribers in the 450 VA and 900 VA category, contributing up to Rp53.2 trillion to the company’s yearly revenue or Rp4.4 trillion monthly.

Meanwhile, the number of subsribers in the 450-VA and 900-VA subsidized categories reached 31 million households with a total yearly revenue of around Rp15.3 trillion or Rp1.28 trillion per month.
