TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Amid the public rejection of COVID-19 funerals in Bandung and Makassar, Chief of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Puan Maharani has tasked the government to immediately disseminate the public on the Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) and protocols for COVID-19 funerals.
“In times like these, we need to show harmony and togetherness; attitudes that have become the hallmark of the nation,” Puan Maharani said in her statement in Jakarta, on Wednesday, April 8, 2020.
According to Puan, the dissemination done by the Ministry of Health must be in cooperation with regional governments, the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI), and the necessary public figures.
The language and manner of disseminating health matters in COVID-19 funerals, Puan continued, must be as simple as possible, in order to ensure the public, in cities or villages, will be able to understand it.
"This step is needed so that there will be no anxiety and fear from the community that transmission will occur if the bodies of (deceased COVID-19 patients) are buried in their area," Puan added.
Puan reassured that the body of a deceased COVID-19 patient has been handled according to health protocol procedures and must therefore be buried immediately.
