TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The national spokesman for the COVID-19 response team, Achmad Yurianto, appealed to Christians to celebrate Easter at home.
“Let's celebrate Easter and pass the fasting month of Ramadan by maintaining health and keeping families and others healthy. Let's perform prayers at our homes,” Yurianto said on Monday, April 6.
He asked the people to not travel as it would increase the risk of the novel coronavirus transmission that caused the disease. “We never know who out there are carrying the virus without showing symptoms.”
This year, Christians will celebrate Good Friday, the Friday before Easter, on April 10, and Easter on Sunday, April 12. It is the day when Christians commemorate Jesus Christ's crucifixion by holding a commemoration of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
Yurianto also demands the public wear cloth masks as recommended by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and WHO. Surgical masks and N95 are intended for medical workers. As for the general public, he said people could wear cloth masks for no more than 4 hours, and then wash them with soap after use.
