TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) in Jeddah denies news suggesting that the Saudi Arabia government has canceled the umrah pilgrimage for the rest of 2020. The KJRI’s hajj consulate, Endang Jumali, said she has yet received official news from the Saudis about it.
The KJRI claims it has coordinated with the Director of Saudi Umrah Travel Abdurrahman Al Segaf to confirm that the news of the year-round umrah ban is untrue.
"Abdurrahman Al Segaf said that the information regarding the annulment of umrah for one whole year is not true,” said Endang in an official statement sited from the Religious Ministry’s website on March 5.
Apart from umrah, Endang said Indonesia’s plan on this year’s hajj pilgrimage will continue as planned as the Saudi Arabian government has not released any statement regarding the matter.
“I also confirmed [this issue] to [the Saudi Arabia hajj and umrah ministry] call center and was provided an explanation that the year-round umrah cancellation is not true,” said Amin Handoyo, KJRI’s Hajj Technical Staff Assistant.
The Kingdom halts the Umrah pilgrimage temporarily due to the global coronavirus outbreak. "You may follow up on the update at Hajj and Umrah Ministry's Twitter account,” Amin remarked.
