TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The West Java administration plans to transform five ex-mining sites into tourist destinations, according to the chief of the mining unit of the province’s Energy and Mineral Resources Agency, Tubagus Nugraha.
Tubagus said the five sites were the ex-Indocement mine in Citeurup, Bogor regency; the ex-PT Holcim site in Sukabumi; in Cimangkok, Cianjur; in Galunggung, Tasikmalaya; and Argasunya, Cirebon city. “We are preparing all of the sites,” he said.
The transformation project of these former mining sites into tourist destinations is dubbed the Post-Mines Tourist Destinations. Tubagus said the first step his side would take to kick-start the project was turning their land status into public lands.
After the altering of the land status was completed, he added, his agency would formulate the design. “We will make a landscape to optimize our options related to these ex-mines,” he said.
He explained the planned tourist destinations would also serve as flora and fauna research sites. According to him, some 7,000 people have visited the ex-Holcim site in Sukabumi although it has yet to be opened.
