How to Properly Wash Hands to Ward Off Virus

5 February 2020 09:44 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe spread of the new novel coronavirus or 2019-nCoV, which is first emerged in China, has been alarming the world. Even though specific treatment or vaccine against the virus has not been developed so far, there are several ways advised to apply as a preventive measure.

The vital, simplest thing to do to avert from being infected with the deadly virus is keeping hand hygiene, especially before eating.

As reported by Sehatq.com, there are effective steps to wash your hands the right way as follows:

  1. Wet your hands with clean, running water –you may use warm or cold water– and take a soap.
  2. Gently wipe your palms with a circular motion.
  3. Rub your hand palms and lather well.
  4. Scrub all parts of your hands, wrists, back of your hands, between fingers, under nails for at least 20 seconds.
  5. Scrub all parts between your fingers in a circular motion.
  6. Rinse thoroughly from the remaining soap and dirt under clean, running water.
  7. Dry your hands using a single-use tissue or clean towel.
  8. Turn off the water tap with a tissue to maintain your clean hands.

When there is no soap or clean water, you may use alcohol-based hand sanitizers that contain at least 60 percent alcohol and follow the below steps:

  1. Apply enough liquid to the palm of one hand.
  2. Rub your hands together.
  3. Spread and rub evenly over your hands and fingers until your hands dry.

The Indonesian Ministry of Health has also published guidelines on the preparation against the novel coronavirus infection, which includes proper handwashing
