TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) arrested General Election Commission or KPU commissioner Wahyu Setiawan during its sting operation on Wednesday, January 8. Wahyu was secured when he was about to depart to Bangka Belitung.
In addition to Wahyu, the anti-graft body apprehended three other people, one of them is allegedly PDIP legislative candidate Harun Masiku and the others are identified as D and S.
A source revealed that the bribery was related to the member replacement in the House of Representatives (DPR). Harun was suspected of lobbying Wahyu to clinch a seat in Senayan Parliament.
Harun is a legislative candidate from the PDIP and runs for South Sumatra I Regional Election No. 6. The electoral district includes Palembang, Musi Banyuasin, Banyuasin, Musi Rawas, Musi Rawas Utara, and Lubuklinggau.
Harun was not elected as a parliament member in the 2019 Legislative Election. The KPU instead named Riezky Aprilia to replace deceased Nazarudin Kiemas. During a plenary meeting on August 31, PDIP had urged the commission to remove Riezky from the candidate list and proposed Harun, yet the request was rejected.
When asked for confirmation, KPK Deputy Chairman Nurul Ghufron said the investigation was still afoot. "The bribe money is around Rp400 million, WS received the money through D and S," said Ghufron.
Meanwhile, PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto said he was not yet informed to the arrest of his party’s cadre. "I am preparing a work meeting," he said.
