TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said the flood inundating the capital city has taken four lives on Wednesday, January 1, 2020. Rain with high intensity showered the city since Tuesday, December 31, 2019.
"So far, four have been declared dead. Two in East Jakarta, one in Central Jakarta, and one in South Jakarta. Hope the number won't increase," Anies said when met in Monas area, Central Jakarta, after monitoring the situation in the city from the air on a helicopter.
Most of the Jakarta areas are inundated by floodwater that had been overflowing since early in the morning. The governor made sure that the city administration had deployed medical teams all over the places.
He said the main priority was to evacuate all of the Jakartans stuck in their flooded homes. Anies said some 120,000 officers were deployed to the locations affected by the flood.
"Our number 1 priority is handling flood victims, so, number 1 is safety," Anies remarked.
