TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ratna Sarumpaet’s lawyer, Desmihardi, said his client would spend time with her children and grandchildren after she was granted parole on Thursday, December 26.
“Based on her comments, what I understand is that she will not return to her initial activities. She will spend time with her grandchildren,” said Desmihardi yesterday, referring to Ratna’s life as an activist.
The women’s correctional office Class IIA Pondok, Bambu, East Jakarta, granted Ratna Sarumpaet parole after the latter served two-thirds of her two-year prison sentence over a public hoax case in which she claimed to be a victim of a physical abuse, which turned out to be a fabricated story.
Desmihardi said Ratna left the East Jakarta prison in a good condition and was “elated to be granted this freedom.”
Ratna Sarumpaet’s probation requires her to report to the Pondok Bambu correctional’s probation officer once a month.
