TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Bambang Soesatyo said that Indonesia is on the right track in its diplomacy amid global issues as it has taken a strategic position in foreign politics.

"Indonesia has been able to influence and shape many international events," he said in the opening speech of the Presidential and Vice Presidential inauguration of Joko Widodo and Ma'ruf Amin in Jakarta, Sunday.

He also said that Indonesia had been able to become a key player in stabilizing the Asia and Pacific region.

Indonesia's position in global diplomacy has become more strategic with its non-permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and membership in the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), representing the Asia Pacific countries for the period of 2020-2022.

Joko Widodo and Ma'ruf Amin were officially inaugurated as President and Vice President of Indonesia for the period of 2019-2024 after being sworn in at the parliament building in Jakarta on Sunday.

Some 17 country leaders attended the event to witness the inauguration ceremony and congratulate the pair.

After Vice President Amin read out his oath of office, they both signed the inauguration documents, which were also signed by the speaker and deputy speakers the People's Consultative Assembly. The signing marked the official beginning of Jokowi and Ma'ruf's time in office.

Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Ma'ruf Amin won the 2019 Indonesian presidential election after beating rival pair of Prabowo Subianto and Sandiaga Uno.
