Corruption Watchdog KPK Nabs North Lampung Regent in Sting Op

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian graft watchdog known for its effective sting operation (OTT), Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), apprehended 37-year-old North Lampung Regent Agung Ilmu Mangkunegara on Sunday, October 6, 2019.
The regent is suspected to be involved in a graft transfer regarding a construction project in the district. In the sting-operation, the agency arrested 4 people. In addition to the regent, two agency leaders and one middleman were nabbed.
“We suspect there was a transaction meant for the district’s leader,” said KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah on Sunday.
KPK suspects the graft is to smoothen several projects in the district under the authority of North Lampung’s Public Works and Cooperative Services, Industry, and Trade.
KPK has flown the people incriminated in the graft to the agency’s main headquarters in Jakarta, where there will be a detailed press conference held later on Monday.
