TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - South Sumatra Police Chief inspector General Firli Bahuri took national headlines the past week after he was elected as the new Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Chairman. However, his skills in cooking his favorite meal, ‘Nasi Goreng’ or fried rice is at the center stage.
Earlier last week, in a dinner with his staff and family members at a food stall in Palembang, Firli took the opportunity to personally prepare a meal for the group and restaurant visitors complete with the necessary cook’s wardrobe.
The fried rice he prepared was dubbed the ‘nasi goreng kapolda’ or the police chief’s fried rice. This meal was cooked for several notable people present at the time such as; Deputy Police Chief Brigadier General Rudi Setiawan and a number of high-ranking officials of the South Sulawesi Police Headquarters.
As Tempo met him on Wednesday, September 18, 2019, the KPK chairman-elect says his cooking skills has been built since he years living in his hometown of Lontar Village, Ogan Komering Ulu, South Sulawesi.
“Cooking is actually a hobby of mine for I am the youngest sibling,” said Firli who asserted that village residents never consider the youngest sibling as spoiled, but rather as someone that must be independent, which includes cooking meals.
“Sometime later I’ll invite journalists to taste my fried rice,” said the KPK Chairman-elect.
