TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - East Java Regional Police are suspecting Veronica Koman for spreading provocation and fake news, or hoaxes, on social media.
"We have named her a suspect based on the preliminary hearing last night," said East Java Police Chief Insp. Gen. Luki Hermawan in a press conference on September 4.
The police said Veronica actively spreads provocation about the Papuan students incident in Surabaya on August 16 through social media. "The person in question was not in the location [during the incident] but she appears online on Twitter often."
Veronica will be charged with ITE Law, Criminal Code Law, Law No. 1/1946, and Law No. 40/2008.
Luki said his office will further communicate with the National Police HQ, State Intelligence Agency (BIN), and Interpol, following the suspect naming since the person in question is currently abroad.
